If you're a casual game fan who insists there's nothing new under the sun, The Odyssey: Winds of Athena from Liquid Dragon Studios will clamp your jaw tight. The goal is simple: Guide a number of sailing ships from one side of the screen to the other by controlling the forces of nature. The gameplay, however, is unlike any you've ever experienced.

To get your boats headed for the exit, you must stir up a strong breeze using the Wind Meter. After your sails are full, you have to click and drag your mouse cursor across the screen to create currents in the water. The technology is brilliant, and for a few stages, you'll feel like a kid playing with a new toy. Soon, however, you'll be avoiding rocky reefs, dodging boulders thrown by Cyclopes and fending off Harpies trying to steal your boats. The Odyssey features 51 levels split into ten chapters, and there's always a new challenge around the bend.

Liquid Dragon has created a game that will keep you on the edge of your seat by alternating between action sequences and strategic challenges. Even better is the sheer joy of interacting with The Odyssey's detailed world. You can grab boulders in midair, ground electricity from storm clouds, slap Sirens upside their head and more. Some elements even interact with each other. (Try dropping a boulder onto the head of a Cyclops.) Guiding the boats to safety using natural forces isn't easy, as they go astray unless you have a firm hand on the waters, but the satisfaction of rising to a new challenge is a rare thing and well worth pursuing.

Kudos has to be given to GoGii for tackling a unique theme instead of piggy-backing a concept that's already been done.
