Experts say it's important to have your eyes checked annually, especially if you're a computer user. Perhaps you should up that to twice a year if you play Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects from Big Fish Games, an offering that glues your eyes to the screen as it sucks up time like a Hoover on a mission.

In Prime Suspects, you investigate a diamond theft by scouring scenes for clues that could lead you to the culprit. Your eyes will narrow in focus as you search a hot dog stand, a museum and more for an assortment of bric-a-brac. The items are cleverly blended into the environments, forcing you to peer intently at the screen as time runs down. Once you locate enough items, a mini-game loads in which you must uncover a picture of the suspect by matching tiles, finding words in a search puzzle or shuffling pieces of the image into place. There are dozens of suspects and locations between you and the guilty party, so expect to devote a lot of time to the case.

Prime Suspect's longevity is both a blessing and a curse. Eventually, you'll start revisiting locations and searching for the same items, which could diminish your interest. Some of the images are a bit pixilated, too, making it hard to tell a snail from a smudge on the screen, for instance. Still, the core gameplay is gratifying and it's fun when you catch the creators trying to throw you for a loop. (For example, you might be required to find two bats, one of which flies, the other of which Barry Bonds uses to hit homeruns.) The overall noir flavor of the visuals is also pleasing. So grab your clue book and hit the streets, but not before making an appointment with your optometrist.
