There was a time when platform games ruled the world of interactive entertainment along with Nintendo's home systems. It's been a long time since gamers skipped their way across Super Mario World to rescue a princess, however, making side-scrollers something of an anachronism in this age of complex 3D worlds and elaborate game mechanics. That hasn't stopped the appearance of a handful of excellent jump-and-run offerings for the PC, though, including Snowy: A Bear's Adventures from Alawar Entertainment and Bud Redhead from Space Ewe. The latest team to revisit that simpler time in gaming is Divo Games with Kenny's Adventures.

In Kenny's Adventures, you control a scuba-toting hero as he scours the ocean for lost treasure. Kenny can walk, jump, and swim short distances in an effort to avoid hazards, including prickly underwater plants, explosive mines and bottomless pits. He can also throw rocks at an assortment of beautifully animated but dangerous sea creatures.

At first, Kenny's Adventures is quite engaging as you soak up its visual details. From the sunken pirate ships in the background to the bubbles that gush from the ocean bottom, the graphics are breathtaking. Your sense of marvel will diminish after a few levels, however, because nothing distinguishes one level from the next, and the degree of difficulty never rises above nominal. Bursting with eye candy, Kenny's Adventures nevertheless treads shallow waters.
