Birds on a Wire Review
Published: October 17, 2006 Birds on a Wire from Alawar Entertainment is a beautiful color-matching game that crosses Luxor with Dynomite and wraps it all up in a countryside setting. Fixed at the bottom center of the screen is a chick-launcher, which you use to fire off multicolored young birds at a conga-line of hatchlings moving along a power-line wire toward the waiting maw of an owl. Each time you match three or more colors using your launcher, the tiny little gang vanishes in a puff of feathers. I'm still unsure as to how that's preferable to being eaten by a big bird, but it's fun, so I don't think about it too much. Birds on a Wire is a superb example of how much can be done with a little artistry. The graphics are spectacular, high in detail and rich in warm colors. The sound design is excellent; from the squeeze-toy squeaks of the chicks to the bouncy soundtrack, it's a complete package. About the only thing I can think of that keeps Birds on a Wire from a perfect overall score is the tendency of the bird-launcher to be inaccurate. Once you attune yourself to this peculiarity, however, the game rocks. Birds on a Wire is great fun-for-all-ages action-puzzle entertainment.
