Bricks of Egypt 2: Tears of the Pharaohs Review

Written by: David Laprad Published: August 25, 2006 Bricks of Egypt 2: Tears of the Pharaohs is the fourth Breakout game from Arcade Lab. The first Bricks of Egypt was a pleasant surprise in terms of playability, graphics and clever level design. Bricks of Atlantis and Bricks of Camelot followed, drawing on new visual themes and tweaking the gameplay in subtle ways. The fourth game takes the series back to the land of the ancient Pharaohs. Drawing on its subtitle, Bricks of Egypt 2 features eyes that float across the screen, dropping coins to catch and hearts to grab for extra points. Another helpful orb pops up from time to time to help eliminate the last few bricks on the screen. You activate these eyes by hitting the bonus generators and catching the powerup as it falls to the bottom of the screen, or by hitting a brick containing the bonus. Bricks of Egypt 2 plays as well and looks as good as its predecessors. Unfortunately, the series has reached a point of diminishing creativity. The levels look and feel the same as those in the previous games, and the feeling of "been there, done that" is quite pervasive while playing. Grab the demo, though, and see if it hooks you.
