Cathy's Caribbean Club Review

Written by: David Laprad Published: April 8, 2007 Back before the world was awash in Diner Dash clones, a little known developer called Mystery Studio released a ground-breaking game called Betty's Beer Bar. In it, you served carafes of ale to an assortment of thirsty patrons and worked your way up from a crummy waitressing job to buying your own island. The game was a small hit, and had more to do with sparking the service industry genre than most realize. The good news is, Mystery Studio is back with a similar, but more refined, release called Cathy's Caribbean Club. Your feet won't hurt after a long session of Caribbean Club, but your wrist might need a rest. In the game, visitors to one of several tropical locations place orders at a bar. Your job is to make the drinks, serve them, and then pick up the dirty glasses. Some of the usual steps in these kinds of games, such as collecting money, are skipped. As you serve a wacky variety of customers, you earn stars with which you can purchase upgrades that make your job easier. Fans of these kinds of games should enjoy Caribbean Club. The gameplay is streamlined compared to similar titles, but is still challenging and fun. And the animation is a little stiffer than in Snowy: Lunch Rush, but the visuals have a wonderful character of their own. So belly up to the bar and order a tall one.
