Cave Days Review
Written by: David Laprad Published: November 20, 2007 When I find a game I enjoy, it's all I want to play when I sit down at the computer. Releases like that are rare, though, which is why I was delighted when I downloaded Cave Days from Insolita Studios on a whim. I'm a sucker for a good platform game, which explains why the game sucked me in from the start. The game follows two cavemen buddies, whose lives consist of hunting dinosaur, eating and sleeping. Each level contains several objectives, examples of which include gathering all of the fruit, collecting dinosaur meat and storing it in your cave, winning a footrace, finding a wife and more. When you complete one task, you can move on to the next level or play the same level again to polish off another goal. In addition to running, jumping, climbing vines and whacking dinosaurs on the head, you can swim, move blocks and activate platforms to solve navigational puzzles. Secrets abound, the best of which involves drawing graffiti on a certain kind of rock found throughout each level. Although the stages are timed and you can take damage when fighting dinosaurs, you can grab powerups to restore your health and put minutes back on the clock. I give Cave Days my highest recommendation. The graphics are cute, the story is charming and the gameplay is well done. My only wish is for more visual detail in the backgrounds. If you enjoy platform games or casual games in general, you'll get a kick out of this one.
