Cradle of Persia Review

Written by: Keri Kunaschk Published: August 12, 2008 Cradle of Persia from Awem and Alawar Entertainment is a match-three game with a twist. As you match objects to clear a board, most match three games drop in more objects from the top to restock the empty spaces. In Cradle of Persia, new objects can enter in from the sides or the bottom of the board, too, depending on the direction in which you moved your mouse to make the match. This adds a nice challenge to the game, since moving left or right, as well as up or down, affects the entire board. As you go through each level, you'll try to collect resources such as gold, lumber and food, which will be used between levels to purchase buildings, bridges and farms that rebuild Persia, taking you through its history. The ultimate goal is to build all of Persia, then free the Genie from Alladin's lamp. You'll also be able to collect several powerups along the way. Each powerup has four different levels of power, so you can decide if you want to use it as soon as it's available or wait until it is more powerful. One example of this is dynamite. When you've collected enough to earn the first level of power, you can use it to destroy one square on the board. But if you wait until you've earned the fourth level of power, it'll destroy a much bigger area. As a fan of match three games, I especially enjoyed Cradle of Persia because of the unique way it restocks matched objects. The gameplay is very addictive and can be played for hours on end. I recommend Cradle of Persia to anyone who has a little or a lot of free time.
