Fairy Treasure Review
Written by: David Laprad Published: March 26, 2007 Fairy Treasure from GameOn is so similar to Bricks of Camelot, I was tempted to dismiss it as a knock off. As in Camelot and other Breakout games from Arcade Lab, you destroy an assortment of bricks using a ball and a paddle. Despite these and other parallels, though, something surprising happened as I played: I couldn't stop. Perhaps it was the striking fantasy artwork, or the smooth ball mechanics, or the way the gameplay was balanced slightly better than the Bricks series, but I found myself in "one more level" mode -- that place where fun and addiction take a hold of you and won't let go. I liked how I could add a pair of bats to my paddle, but my paddle wouldn't get so long it'd be impossible to avoid bad powerups. I also appreciated the three-ball limit onscreen, which is perfect for casual gamers who are easily overwhelmed. And I enjoyed liberating the fairies and destroying the witches and trolls. Like the latter games in the Bricks series, however, the maps in Fairy Treasure lack character. Instead of enjoying a series of unique challenges, I detected only slight adjustments from level to level. Yet there I was, entertained for hours.
