Hidden Expedition: Titanic Review
Published: September 24, 2006 Big Fish Games has all but perfected the Mystery Case Files series with the latest installment, titled Hidden Expedition: Titanic. As with its predecessors, the game sends you on a quest to scour static images for cleverly hidden knickknacks and bric-a-brac. The setup involves searching the various chambers of the Titanic. You're allowed to stay submerged as long as you have air, which you'll use up slowly while searching for a creatively veiled pair of dice or a belt that's been concealed in plain sight. Hints are a huge draw on your oxygen, so it's best to use them sparingly. Each dive requires you to find several items in two or more rooms, then overcome a final challenge before running out of air. The final challenges range from overlaying the pieces of a picture on a decaying original to searching one last static screen for several related items (such as the tools an author used to write his final novel). The graphics appear to be sharper this time, although occasionally you'll still find yourself squinting at the screen while looking for an obscure item that virtually requires the use of a hint. The underwater theme is well used, though, and humor is sprinkled amongst the unnerving music and odd imagery to lighten the mood. (The "Scuba Dog" got me good!) If you haven't played one of these games, Hidden Titanic is a good place to start. Now, how about one set in a haunted house?
