Hyperballoid Complete Edition Review
Published: October 30, 2006 Hyperballoid Complete Edition from Alawar Entertainment is a straight-up Breakout clone. Although it does very little paradigm shifting, it does take the tenets of form and polish them in a glorious fashion. In short, even though it's not original, it's still one of the best examples of its genre. Graphically, Hyperballoid looks quite good, but not great. The array of powerups is plentiful, although there's nothing we haven't seen before (fireballs, guns, ball-to-paddle magnets and so on). The levels, on the other hand, are creative and diverse. In fact, this is one of the stronger elements of this game. There isn't much in the way of monotony to be found, and that's a good thing. What I find best, however, is the music. Whoever made Hyperballid knows their techno, and I'm elated that such an excellent selection of psytrance has been included. In fact, I play Hyperballoid more to listen to the soundrack than anything else. To the casual listener, techno is techno. For elitists like me, the effort is appreciated all the more. This is one package with a superb dollar-for-entertainment value, as its three full sets of levels in one. I highly recommend it!
