There was a time when shareware was simple. As you downloaded a new game, chances were a single author had developed it. And after installing the program, you could be playing in seconds. My, how things have changed! Now, teams of artists, programmers and designers take months to create elaborate casual offerings that come in super-megabyte packages. Getting started is still a smooth affair, but there are options to select, profiles to create and storyboards to read first. Super Mah Jong Solitaire from Gamehouse does away with all of that and takes shareware back to its roots.

Super Mah Jong Solitaire is a tile matching game not unlike countless other offerings. The difference is in the presentation. When you load it, a single click is all that's needed to start playing. You could, of course, select another board or tile set, or read the help file and choose a new song, but since everything is easily reached from a single screen, it still won't be long before you're matching bamboo sticks. While this might sound bare bones in comparison to more ambitious releases, Super Mah Jong Solitaire is what casual gaming is all about: get in, relax for a few minutes and get out. Gameplay features include undo, reshuffle and hints. Saved games and a high scores table are provided as well. Add in modest but crisp visuals, and you have a winner.
