Superstar Chefs Review
Written by: David Laprad Published: August 21, 2007 Superstar Chefs from Arcade Lab recaptures the classic arcade experience so well, I start digging in my pockets for a quarter each time I load up. Like all games of that era, the premise is simple: you control a Mario-sized chef who must gather as much fruit as possible. Along the way, you'll set a world record for running, jumping and stomping on the heads of your enemies. You'll also have to master a variety of platform gaming standards, including elevators, jump pads and conveyor belts. Once you've collected all of the goodies on the current level, you get to move on to the next one. Two things make Superstar Chefs worth playing. First, the artwork and animation are terrific. Colorful background graphics set the stage for great-looking action featuring 3D rendered sprites. I wish all casual arcade games for the PC looked this good! Second, the game is simple. All of the action takes place on a single screen, so there's no getting lost while exploring, and although there's a lot of jumping to do, the controls are butter-smooth. Add in a two-player duel mode, and you have a qualified winner. With Superstar Chefs and Pizza Frenzy, the guys at Arcade Lab are the current kings of platform gaming on the PC.
