Treasure Island Review
Published: May 5, 2006 Treasure Island, a new object matching game from Nevosoft, has three things going for it, one of which is dancing skeletons. I could recommend the game solely on the basis of their slick moves, but you probably want to know what else makes it worth playing. Each level in Treasure Island consists of a grid filled with pirate loot. To win, you must remove the tile attached to each square on the grid by creating matches of three or more identical treasures. This removes the treasures from the screen and eliminates the tiles on which they sat. As treasures are removed from the grid, new loot fills the empty squares. Instead of swapping adjacent objects, as in Beezzle and Bistro Stars, Treasure Island allows you to swap one object with another anywhere on the grid. Matching four or more treasures activates one of two powerups that can help you clear squares faster. This is a good thing, as time is limited. The time limit is the second thing I liked about Treasure Island; it keeps you on the edge of your seat. The other enjoyable aspect of the game is its pirate-themed artwork. After the first few levels, however, you've seen everything Treasure Island has to offer except stages that are more and more complex. It takes a lot of determination, therefore, to beat all 100 levels. At least you have the dancing skeletons to keep you company. Scoring (out of five dragon heads): Graphics: Ease of use: Gameplay: Difficulty: Sound effects: Music: Final analysis:
